COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook praised dogged detective work and forensic science for helping the gang unit arrest a man sought in connection with a shooting spree that seriously wounded a 13 year old and injured an 11 year old last month.In a news conference Monday, Holbrook was joined by Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott to discuss the arrest of Markelton Stephens, 20, who has been charged with attempted murder along with various weapons charges in three cases in the Columbia area.Stephens is charged in the two Falling Springs Road shootings that wounded two children. In the first case, police say Stephens opened fire in the area and his bullets struck a 13 year old in the head who was visiting friends. At last check, the teen is still recovering from “very critical injuries” in the shooting.In the second case, police say Stephens once again opened fire and this time struck an 11 year old girl in the neck while she was visiting her family.
